Our New Home: 70 E. 4th Street
In late 2005, Downtown Art and Alpha Omega Dance Company purchased a vacant building at 70 E. 4th Street together with an adjoining empty lot at 19 E. 3rd Street from the City of New York for $1. The building is part of the newly created "East 4th Street Cultural District."
Downtown Art owns 3 floors with over 6000 square feet. The estimated costs for the necessary gut renovations to the entire building are $4 million. In July 2007, we reached that fundraising goal with lead commitments to the project from former City Councilmember Margarita Lopez, Councilmember Rosie Mendez, former Borough President C. Virginia Fields, Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer, and the Mayor's Office with the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs.
DTA moved from its long-time base at 64 E. 4th Street in July 2005. We are currently making theater across the street at 61 E. 4th Street until renovations are completed at our future home.
