For Teen Artists

What You Need To Know | Applying and Auditioning

Downtown Art works with teen artists in music and theater to create and perform original works and creative spins on the classics. Our season runs from September to June and each season, we assemble a company of teen artists.

Downtown Art is proud of our reputation for quality, professionalism, and creativity. Company members are asked to make a commitment to the standards we set, but the payoff is real learning, creative growth and a lot of fun.

Eligibility & Cost

Company membership in 2016/17 is open to all young women, ages 13-18. No previous theater experience is required.

Selection

Company members are selected based on an audition and/or interview. We are seeking young people excited about out projects and able to make the full commitment to participation.

Activities & Schedule

At Downtown Art, company members manage more than their artistic roles. They also have a role in the ongoing operation of the theater, which includes helping backstage and participating in our annual Bowlathon. However, 90% of each company members' time will be spent on artistic work.

Each company member's schedule will depend on which project you are working on. Company members will have two afternoon rehearsals each week (usually 4:00-6:00pm), and Saturday sessions usually twice a month (usually 11-2 pm).

Company members will receive a complete schedule for the year upon being accepted. Preliminary schedules will be made available during auditions.

Tech and Performances: Performances for a project are generally scheduled for three weekends. Each performance call lasts 4-5 hours. Each project will also have a 'Tech Week' of intensive rehearsal, often the final week before performances begin. During that week, there are usually daily rehearsals, each lasting 4-5 hours.
