Downtown Art has moved to its new home at 70 East 4th Street, located between Bowery and Second Ave, in the East 4th Street Cultural District.
Downtown Art owns its space which was purchased from the city in 2007 with deed restrictions that it be for 'nonprofit cultural use in perpetuity.'
At 70 East 4th Street, Downtown Art has a 70-seat theater, a large rehearsal studio, and offices, and shares a rear yard with partner Alpha Omega Theatrical Dance Company.
70 East 4th Street was renovated through over $5 million in public funding and many community donations. Leadership commitments were made by City Councilwoman Rosie Mendez, the Manhattan Borough President, and the NYC Dept. of Cultural Affairs.
Additional renovations to install full HVAC on the 2nd and 3rd floors, as well as a sprung wood dance floor, full kitchen, additional restroom with shower, and roof deck are in development. Construction will begin in late 2017.
